Follow Your Fckn Gut: The Supplements

Unfortunately, there is no magic pill - no matter what the influencers say - or crazy scientific discovery associated with my recovery process.  There were lots of road blocks along the way, even with an expert’s assistance. With that being said, the following is my tried and true supplemental guide into my overdue recovery.  Let’s get into it, shall we?

The first, and most important, item we needed to tackle was those fucking parasites.  My doctor recommended a 4-month GI Pack that would essentially kill the parasites and all other bad bacteria wreaking havoc on my digestive system.  To break it down, the first two months were designed to kill ALL the good and bad bacteria, while the final two months were designed to rebuild the digestive system, and the good bacteria, with multiple strong AF probiotics (Visbiome, BioSpora, PureGG). She didn’t come to play.

Disclaimer: If you believe you have a parasite, then DEFINITELY seek a doctor of your own.  ESPECIALLY if you are nursing or pregnant, which I’m neither, thank god for myself and society.  This is a FULL BODY detox and should be monitored by a professional.

Since the first two months are effectively an extended cleanse and detoxification, they were pretty fucking rough.  My acid reflux actually worsened and I had explosive diarrhea literally every day.  Before seeing my naturopath, I was taking Zegerid for relief from my acid reflux almost daily.  However, since then, I have done my own research on the negative effects of antacids and how long term usage of PPIs (or proton pump inhibitors) are linked to stomach cancer.  So that’s fucking great.   You would think as a recovering hypochondriac that I would have known all this shit, but I honestly just wanted relief so I didn’t look into the side effects.  HOWEVER, my godsend of a doctor turned me onto this ALL NATURAL supplement called GastroCleanse made with psyllium husks that has helped tremendously.  Truthfully, it’s not AS efficient as Zegerid but it beats getting cancer.

Even though I was told to expect initial adverse reactions, there were times I doubted the anticipated results since I started off feeling worse than I had before I began the supplements.  However, I stuck with it, and by month three, I felt better than I had in years.

A few key supplements included in the GI pack:

Activated Charcoal- not only can this be used on college kids who drink too much, but it’s also used to absorb toxins (a.k.a parasites) in the body.

Oregano Oil- its antimicrobial components make it SUPER effective in killing parasites, bacteria and fungi.  Word of warning based on many personal, uncomfortable experiences- this sometimes digests poorly and might burn your throat if swallowed without enough water.  What’s the phrase?  Optimal health is pain?

Wormword- as gross of a name this supplement has, it is powerful as fuck.  It’s also been shown to kill cancer cells and beat malaria.  It’s like an all-in-one package.

Simultaneously, we needed to replenish my nutrient deficiencies by adding a day and night multi-pack to ensure that this full body detox wouldn’t be a waste of time AND MONEY.  Including the supplements from the GI pack, I was taking 75 pills each day.  I am not even exaggerating. It was just as inconvenient as it sounds, and definitely garnered some judgmental looks when I swallowed a handful of pills before my salad came out at a restaurant.   Even though I will be taking the day and night-time pack for the immediate future, these pills were easier on my body and gave me an almost instant, positive reaction.  I truly felt a difference with my overall digestion, mood and energy level by Day 3.

Since each supplement impacted different aspects of my laundry list of issues, I will share the ones that directly impacted my digestion for this post.

  1. PE Potassium MG Citrate- If you read my last post, this one is pretty self-explanatory.  I was on the verge of muscle paralysis due to my non-existent potassium levels and needed more than bananas in my diet to rectify the situation.

  2. Triple Magnesium 250- Not only has this been a life changer on my digestion, but it has also been shown to help with PMS.  If you turn into a hormonal bitch every month like me, you could effectively kill two birds with one stone.

  3. MotilPro- I am nervous to share this gem in fear it will go flying off the shelf.  I have no idea how it works but it somehow stimulates your gut signaling neurons and works its magic. Every. Fucking. Morning.

The final supplement I will share with you today are digestive enzymes. Again, these can be inconvenient since you have to take them before each meal, but they have truly helped with my acid reflux, bloating and overall feeling of fullness.  The brand I use, Digestzymes, is slightly expensive but it’s worth it for me to not feel like I am dying after every meal.

If any of you have additional supplements that have worked for your digestion in the past, please share your wisdom below!
